flashing diamond shaped object that change blue/white/red

Flashing diamond. Noticed really bright star in sky between two trees, object was due west to my position but rising, it rose approximately 10 degrees in the sky, then moved northwest, still rising "opposite" of star and moon rotation. Object seemed to hover in place, sometimes emitting blue to white to red light, but never became much larger than a quarter inch to naked eye. when observed with an ir scope, object was a diamond shape. snapped two photos of object with cell phone, object was observed for approximately 10 more minutes before it disappeared, total elapsed time was 30 minutes.
