Blinding light enveloped us while driving, missing time

I failed to report this until years later. Month, year, day and time is approximate.

I was driving when a white bright light overcame my vehicle. I was surprised I didn't crash. This was definately not something or someone that was playing a prank. It was up higher than the trees and both myself and my son who was around 12 at the time saw it. Also after a brief few seconds it turned its rays off of us and we noticed it was a glowing ball of white. It then started bouncing up and down in an arc as it proceeded away, but bouncing is a loose term. It more or less shot up many hundreds of feet instantly and down again, and kept repeating this process until it was out of view. This really bothered me since I was in the middle of nowhere with my boy and when we arrived at our destination it was more than 3 hours later. We were going to Chanute which was less than 45 minutes away. I'm still freaked out to this day especially with all the hubbub surrounding ufos and the fact that I cannot explain wtf we were for over 2 hours!
