This thing was cloaked with some light bending tech. producing only a quiet barely perceptible hum

I was driving around the outskirts of Phoenix in the early summer of 1996. It was my night off from my graveyard shift job, so I explored during the early hours since my sleep schedule didn't begin until 8:30am or so when I returned home from work. This night I decided to take Bell Ave (pretty sure) West for a couple of hours to see where it went. I was a recent transplant from New York attending technical college so I knew little about Phoenix and the surrounding area and I enjoyed exploring. At least 1 1/2 hours into my drive I noticed a light in the sky to my right over the desert. I pulled over and stood in front of my car just looking and the light started coming towards me. It seemed to be a very large object only by how it appeared to wrap the night around itself, almost like a cloaking mechanism for lack of a better term. I also felt what I would described as a quiet hum while it was close to me in the sky. It moved to the east very fluidly, stopped on a dime and reversed direction back towards where it was before. Once again I can only say that it didn't really have a sound, only a quiet hum like from some massive machinery that's been muffled I to near silence, but also a feeling if that makes sense. It flew off and I tried to wrap my mind around what I just witnessed. This was the year before the Phoenix Lights and I didn't really know much about UFO's. I decided to get back in my car and instead of continuing in the direction I was heading, I banged a u-turn and headed back to Phoenix. Almost right away I was passed by 3 identical cars heading the opposite way and I remember thinking they looked like government Aries "K" cars, but who knows. They never turned around. I felt that because of what I just witnessed in the desert and the very early time it was, that these cars were somehow connected, but that's just my thought. When I went to school the following day I mentioned it to an old timer who was sitting next to me 8n class and he just gave me a knowing look like this kind of thing happens. This incident has made me a believer in UAP's. Whether this was some military experimental craft or actually an alien vessel, it was like nothing I had ever seen. I really feel this was running some kind of cloaking mechanism, because it was almost possible to see the shape, but not quite, like a haze. The light that I originally spotted was the only light visible if recollection serves.
