3 lighted objects circling at high altitude that were both bright and dim

Several pilots from other carriers reported the same 3 circling lights at similar altitude as our aircraft. They would shine bright then dim. Continuously .

Flying in AA1229 ORD to LAX, flying West - the lights appeared to the right.
