Blue Orb Shot up Into the Sky

I woke up around 3 a.m. Unable to sleep and uneasy, I went outside for some fresh air. I have a second-story porch, which faces northeast and overlooks a neighborhood lane.

While sitting on the porch, I heard my neighbor's dog yelp and whimper. This sound drew my attention to my neighbor's yard, approximately 100 feet from where I sat. A few seconds after the whimper, I saw a bright blue light hover momentarily, then shoot up into the sky as fast as it appeared.

The dog's yelping solidified that it was not a sleep-deprived hallucination but a cause-and-effect situation. Also, the blue light stood out to me because of a story my mother-in-law always tells. She grew up two houses down from where the dog yelped and often commented about a blue light she would see as a child across the street in the cemetery. She said she would often see it drifting through the tree line and disappear as quickly as it appeared.
