A meteor that change course flew over me.

I was a police lieutenant traveling home at 0400 hours. What I thought was a meteor flew overhead to my left about 150-200 feet above me. It flew over the Colorado River (Lake Marble Falls) but it veered slightly to the left. It looked what I guessed what a falling meteor would look like. It was very bright and had an approximate 200-300’ trail behind it which appeared to be burning or glowing. I rolled down my window and heard nothing. I listened for an impact which never happened. It did appear to be descending. No other reports came over the police radio and no I did not report it. Guess I didn’t believe anyone would believe me. I did tell my wife. Watching Ancient Aliens on TV today I saw where there had been similar sightings so I thought I’d mention it. I am retired since last November. I have a college degree and spent 43 years in law enforcement.
