Blimp Landing in farm field exploded into hundreds of orbs that then took off in all directions.

While driving south on interstate 5 in California about two hours outside of San Francisco, in early afternoon, no clouds; I noticed about 1/2 mile ahead of me what appeared to be a blimp size shape landing in a farm / pasture field. The object had no markings on it like Goodyear / etc. I thought at first it was landing because of some emergency. However; just as it seemed to touch the ground, it literally "exploded" into what appeared to be more than a hundred orbs that took off in all directions. AS I pulled adjacent to the "landing" site, there was no sign of debris or burnt areas.

I am an ex-military officer, with three commands while on active duty, including battalion commander of a nuclear artillery unit during cold war. I know what I saw!!
