Characteristics: Lights on object, Emitted beams

Observed two large shimmering orange sphere's float up into the overcast sky.

It was July 1977 in Scotland around 9 pm and I was coming home from a nights fishing with my Dad and his friend. I was 18 years old at the time.

As the three of us approached the town roads, we stopped to talk. My Dad was in deep conversation with his friend and I was looking across the horizon. We were at an elevated position to the neighbouring town, giving an excellent view toward the horizon.

It was an overcast night with heavy grey cloud, warm and dull, but still bright and clear enough to see for many miles, as we were in summer and the days were long. All at once I could not comprehend what I was looking at. There was a giant orange object slowly rising from the distant horizon up toward the sky. The distance from us was about four miles and I know this because the horizon was the border of the neighbouring town which is four miles from where we were.

The object was like an orange ball at the centre with hundreds of long thin orange spikes protruding from the centre outwards to form a circular shape. To the bottom right of the object was an identical object, except it was only a quarter the size of the big one. Both objects floated slowly and shimmered while floating up into the heavy grey clouds until they were no longer visible. The size of the larger object would easily have been a mile in diameter.

During the sighting I asked my Dad and his friend to look at these strange objects. Both men looked to where I was pointing and turned to me and said, "Where are they, we can’t see anything." This was rather frustrating for me so I asked them to look again. There was no way they could have missed the objects, especially the giant one. Once again they looked right in the direction and said they could see nothing. My Dad was rather angry at me for interrupting his conversation. I found the whole experience really strange. I never touched drugs or alcohol and I was not hallucinating.

These two strange events lasted about a minute and a half. The very clear large orange objects and the really strange fact that my Dad and his friend could not see them have always baffled me. I had never seen those objects before and have never seen them since. This sighting got me interested in the UFO phenomena. I have seen several UFO’s since, because I observe the sky and practice a little amateur astronomy.
