3-4 lights in the sky before fireworks

Waiting for fireworks at the beach on the fourth of July, I noticed 3 lights in the sky to the north. They looked like stars, but were perfectly aligned, which made me think they were just lights from a cell phone tower, although they didn't blink like usual.

These lights only barely dimmed and brightened at first. As the night progressed, I noticed they were slowly moving in different directions, going to the west.

Soon after, I noticed a 4th light behaving the same way, and saw the highest light slowly fade away for a bit, before its light came back into view.

This went on for about and hour and a half before the fireworks started, and I forgot all about them until the celebrations were done.

I looked back to them, and they were gone.
