Green Object in the Night sky over the nations capital

The craft shot across the sky and looked almost like a green flare, it was very puzzling and this is the second time I have seen it in the past few months and 40 miles away my girlfriend saw the same event and the same craft and Identified the same object. I am not sure if I believe it was a ufo, but it looked like nothing I have seen before. I do believe we are not alone.
