Dark patch appeared, blocking stars. Blinding white flash in the center, object disappeared

I was out stargazing and looking for UAP/UFOs as I often do on clear nights. I was staring directly up, and suddenly a large patch of the sky went completely dark, devoid of all light from stars. After about 10-15 seconds, a blinding white flash emitted directly from the center of the dark sky, lasting maybe half a second. I noticed a slight smell of ozone after a moment, and then as suddenly as the object appeared, it disappeared and the section of sky was visible again. There was no noise emitted from the object.
