White orb descended to 1000 AGL, exploded with a white halo, smoke and changed direction.

My wife looking out the window noticed the white orb and asked me if airplanes have blinking lights and I said yes, she said you better come look at this. I came to the window and this white orb was coming towards us on a descending path, from about 20k feet and when it got to about 1000' AGL it exploded with a white halo, smoke and changed direction and accelerated 10x the speed it descended with. The explosion looked like when a aircraft brakes the sound barrier and that white mist cloud develops.
