This is a possible landing siteof unknown age, there are melt marks in the lava flow where basalt was melted to perlite glass.

This happened during a geology field trip. There were five other witnesses as well as myself to the phenomenon. We were heading back to our camp near Owlshead Springs after being left off in the Owlshead Mtns to the east to search for fossils. We headed west-southwest out fo the mountains toward flatter terrain on our way back to camp, We crossed the terminus of a basaltic lava flow that was at the western edge of the Owlshead mtns. We climbed upon the flow and noticed a pattern of melt spots in the lava flow that was circular in shape where the basalt had been altered by high heat to Perlite glass.aproximately 100' in diameter. No photos were taken. We were astonished at the site. And the realization that it had to have occurred from an object landing on the lava flow from above, that created the pattern of melt from basalt to perlite. I am not sure of the age of the lava flow probably fairly recent in geological time.
