Large red glowing object that appeared low In sky and moving towards us. Looked like it was on fire. Moved around oddly. Then flew away

A friend and I were standing outside hotel in parking lot talking . I looked up to see this large red glowing object over the rooftops of the houses across from us coming towards us. I interrupted my friend and said what the hell is that? And as I was saying that he was already looking at it too. And he said the same thing. Had no idea what it could be. It then went way up high in the sky, and stayed there moving around in an odd patern. Not in any straight line. It was glowing red the whole time. After a couple of minutes, it went diagonally up higher in the sky away from us until it was out of sight. Both of us had no idea what we just saw. It made no sense.
