Sphere of light on a straight path transiting from north to south, steady speed

I was in Accokeek, MD at a birthday for an acquaintance. The weather was fairly mild in the evening so they made use of their large outside patio so I spent considerable time outside. The house is in a decent size neighborhood the property parallels 210 (Indian Head Highway). Sitting outside you could tell we were very close to the flight path for the southern approach into the Reagan Airport, the planes were low enough you could see the landing gear deployed. They were approaching from the east and banking to the north for approach I'd assume. I was out on the patio facing north talking with this girl sitting across from me. I interrupted the conversation because I saw a low flying light between the house north of us moving at a fairly fast speed. That is when this large illuminated white sphere passed overhead no more than 3-5 stories above the ground (just above tree tops/roof tops). It looked like a sphere of white light, without actually illuminating anything. For size I'd have estimated you could fit a large GMC truck inside. It made no noise, I felt no air draft from it. It continued on a straight path heading south, and the girl and I ran further into the yard to watch it disappear over the roofs of houses to the south.
