White, like a light bar, moving slowly easterly across the night sky

Bar looked like a neon night, about 3 inches long from our standpoint, and straight across, moving slowly, easterly along the sky..... that would make it several hundred feet long. It didn't appear to be moving upward or downward, just level. After it came to our attention, about 30 seconds later, it faded out slowly. My neighbor is 65 and an engineer. I'm 74. We are not easily impressed, but we see no way this was a jet stream, an aircraft, or anything else our imagination can fathom. There was no noise. We would like to know if anyone else saw this thing
