Driving home i saw a light hovering in the sky witch then shot off with a flash of light.

My mother was driving me home from scouts one night. I happened to be looking out my window when i saw this object, it was to far away to make a shape out of it but it was giving off a yellowish type of light. It was hovering around shooting off left then right, up, down, and around without loosing momentum, constintly at the same speed. Then after about 30 sec there was a flash of light on the right side of it, and it was gone. My mother also saw it. My mother was working, and was about 28 at the time and i was at school and was 9 years old at the time.
