I saw an object with a string of white lights running along its side, and then a large round explosion of bright light

I was out for a late night walk and saw an object with a string of white lights running along its side, and there were also a few red blinking lights. The sky was too dark to see what shape it was. At first it was moving very slow so I thought it might be an airplane, but then it stopped and didn't move for a long time. Then near it, a large round explosion of bright light flashed for a second, then disappeared, but the object remained. The flash of light was larger than the object. I walked home and could still see it in the sky, but after 20 minutes I went inside.
