Repeat sighting of orange flare-like objects flickering on Northern Vegas skyline, but shorter-lived.

Same lights my roommates & I witnessed last week on 09/18/14, but shorter lived.

These were orange, stationary, flare-like objects that flickered on the Northern horizon. Three appeared over the Centennial Hills area, then a pair near Nellis AFB.

Last week they lasted long enough to be considered flares but tonight's lights flashed & died out in seconds, seemingly more brilliant. Flares that short-lived would be pretty useless, so I am left wondering what these could be.

I only caught this glimpse tonight because I was out having a cigarette, I didn't even have time to run inside for my camera before it ended. As before, no obvious aircraft were near the lights.
