Object change angle trajectory from 45 deg to 5 or 10 degrees

Object was seen in the sky west of our location. High in the air but at a mid to low altitude and seemed to be coming down at a 45-degree angle. A flash grew visible at the bottom facing point of the object. The object was seen lower at a 5-to-10-degree angle before disappearing behind the tree line.
