White fireball seen for about 10 seconds moving from west to east

Stepped outside before bed to have a cigarette. Glanced up at the sky and saw a white fireball moving very fast from west to east for about 10 seconds. At first, I thought it was a shooting star, but it was visible for at least ten seconds, and had a trail of white sparks behind it as it crossed the sky in a straight trajectory. Comet?
