A red, glowing object hovering above the East River. It then dropped into the river, and its glow could still be seen after the object was under the water

The object was aprox. 4 mi distant horizontally. Vertical distance unknown, but below cloud level. From vantage point, about the size of a marble. Its speed while dropping was quite fast, but once under the water it seemed to move quite slowly, moving down toward NY Harbor before fading away
