Single star moving quickly in the night sky

In 1976 I attended a Beach Boys concert at Arrowhead Stadium. I was looking up at the stars and saw one star moving in a straight line at a pretty good clip. I said something to the people I was with and those sitting around us on the field heard me and started looking up, as well. The star stopped moving and I thought I lost it. Then it started up again and quickly shot off at an angle and disappeared. It was very far away and looked like a star except for the movement. The entire episode lasted about 5 minutes.
