I saw a hovering light that zipped away at an amazing speed.

This was around a decade ago in the early summer on a Saturday, at dusk. The sun was going down in the horizon, but it was still partial daylight. The house was in the country with two neighbors just across a small field - but otherwise it was isolated and rural with quite a bit of trees and foliage around, as well as frequently sighted wildlife of all sorts.

I was coming home from work early in the evening, and as I pulled my truck up to the turn into the driveway of where I was living, I saw a bright ball of light above the pond in the yard. At first I thought it was far off in the horizon, maybe an aircraft or far off light above the treeline in the yard of some mundane origin. As I started to pull into the yard, however, I realized it was not far away from me at all, but hovering just above the pond in my yard, and silently sitting maybe 10 feet in the air. It was about one football field away from me. It seemed to be cognizant of my seeing it, or approaching, because as my headlights and my gaze turned toward the object while I navigated the driveway, it zoomed north, behind the house, and out of my view. There was no sound I could hear. The amazing speed of the object is what made me realize it was not reflected light, a drone, or any other typical thing: it moved faster than anything I’ve ever seen, and from a fully stopped position. It was gone before I had any real time to react, but I did clearly see it move in a distinct direction and out of view. I drove to the house and immediately ran around the other side to look for it, but it seemed to be long gone. The light was red or white (or a combination) from what I remember, but I can’t be positive about that part. I think it did change colors at a certain point or points.

I couldn’t understand what it was, and I have never forgotten it as something unexplainable to life as I have known it up until then. It bothered me for days afterward. There was some strange & unique electrical occurrences in that house as well, things I could not and still cannot explain, but I can’t know if it was connected to this one sighting, of course.
