Bright light suddenly appears above commercial plane

I was sitting on my back deck watching a commercial plane in the distance. As I was watching the plane, a bright light suddenly appeared out of nowhere right above the plane. It hovered above the plane between the wing and the tail section. It just hung there in the sky for four seconds and then flew off, very fast, in the opposite direction from the plane. It flew for two seconds and just vanished. It was daylight, clear skies no clouds. It flew faster than the plane.
