colored light formation darting hovering over NY tristate

I stepped outside alone to take out recycling. I saw was a flash of light. I looked up and there was a string of lights flashing, possibly changing color a bit-- the colors appeared to be purple, blue. The shape was a formation of lights. It made different movements with alternating velocity-- wobbled, hovered, made sharp zig zag, then hurtled and disappeared. It sounded like there was a strange buzzing vibration like sound.

I am a 52-year old white (Jewish) divorced mother with three adolescent children. We live about 10 miles west of NYC. I have a Master's degree in English, am a former a book editor, and a University of Michigan graduate. I do not have mental health or substance abuse issues.
