We saw a bright white object hovering in the atmosphere almost directly overhead. It stayed in one place for several minutes and then appeared to move upward in the atmosphere until it was difficult to distinguish from a star. At that point, the object stayed in place and appeared to twinkle.

A plane passed nearby as the object was moving higher through the atmosphere.
