Two blinking objects connect and then fly away together

Was taking Dog out in yard to do his thing and as I looked up in the Eastern part of sky I saw a blinking object fly toward another blinking object and attached itself to the first blinking object. For as long as I could see them the stayed attached until out of sight. They were close enough to see what was happening but I could not tell what shape they were since I did not have my binoculars with me. First time I have seen this.
