Saw three lights heading north up the Hudson river, all separated by about five minute intervals.

At first, I suspected they were Chinese paper lanterns, but their movement seemed to mechanical, suggesting that it was not that wind that was carrying them, and then my friend (the other witness) noted that they were in fact not going in the direction of the wind.

The lights were orangish and quite bright.
