Object in eastern sky in south New Jersey.

On January 22 2014 at 2359 hrs. I was loading my wood stove and on completing this I sat down to enjoy the fire when I looked out the bay window facing and easterly direction and saw something that was like a star but it was not. That night we had a cloud cover moving in around midnight and I did not see any stars out. This object was not moving at this time. I saw one red light at the bottom which my first thought was that it was a military craft. The light glowed like an aviation light. The light would be bright and then drop to a lesser brightness but would never go out. The object had three white lights one was to the right of the red light and one to the left. These where evenly spaced from the red light and on the same level. The third one was vertical of the red one and was spaced as the same as the ones right and left. These white lights never changed their brightness stayed the same the whole time. I was trying to understand the object not jumping to any conclusions. Then it moved from its location by dropping to the right at a 20 degrees angle. Next, it changed its angle to complete to 45 degrees. Finally, it went to a horizontal movement to the right. When this was completed, it went back to its location in same movement. This thing stopped me from thinking it was something military. The speed in which it traveled was very fast. In a split second it traveled to its new location and the same speed back. This object as it appeared from the distance from where I was standing with a measuring scale was about 1/8 of an inch. The length of its movement was about of an inch. The lights never changed its configuration, nor did the object rotate, or pitch. The object in about ten seconds did this movement again which was a copy of its first. I think in about 20 seconds it made this move the same as the last two, except it was to the left and it was the same. The lights never changed, nor did the start location, but then! as clouds moved in I think caused the brightness to drop off. Then the brightness came back to a full brightness. Next, I only saw the top light because I think the clouds covered the bottom. Finally, I think it was covered with clouds. I sat there for an hour hoping it would be seen again, but it never did. The total time that I saw this object was three to four minutes.
