Beam of light descends from clear sky from an undetermined craft

Was stargazing on a clear night with three friends at haystack on Deer isle From out of nowhere a beam of light streamed down from the sky and began panning back and forth across the bay. After about ten seconds the beam retracted back up to an unknown craft with flickering red and green lights , the craft hovered then darted suddenly and the lights disappeared . All four witnessed were quite unnerved there had been no sound so it couldn't have been anything conventional.
