Night object with flashing red and green lights over Vernon, B.C. Canada

This is the same phenomenon that was reported on August 10 by someone else in Vernon. Last night, around 10:00PM, I was outside letting my dogs out for their usual business. As someone interested in astronomy as a hobby, I was looking up in the clear sky admiring the stars, particularly the Big Dipper. I looked towards the horizon and saw what I first thought was an oncoming aircraft. I assumed it was an aircraft as there was the typical bright light and the blinking red and green lights on either side. However, after viewing for a few minutes, I noticed that the object didn't move but appeared stationary and was 'setting' with the rest of the stars. I grabbed my 4" telescope but wasn't able to make out too much except that the lights appeared to separate at times from the main body. This could have been due to the atmospheric conditions. The next evening (tonight) my brother was over for a visit and both he and my wife witnessed the same object,! moving in the same path as last night and still have the red and green blinking lights. When viewing through the telescope, by brother noted that it appears there were flames ejecting at times from the object and surrounded the colored lights. I wasn't able to see the same as my eyesight is not as good at night. However, I mentioned to him that he may be seeing the reflection of the sun off a tumbling object. I'm very skeptical about UFO's, but for me, this is an unidentified space object, only because I can't find any logical explanation of this object. Does anyone have any suggestions?
