A large red crescent shaped light appeared to slowly descend to the east and disappear behind buildings.

Standing on the fire escape of my building, I saw a large, red, crescent shaped light descend to the east of my location. It appeared to be approaching the horizon and moving to the north very slowly.

After about five minutes of watching it disappeared behind the New York skyline. It appeared to large and too slow to be an airplane, blimp, or weather balloon. It appeared very bright because it was raining and overcast and yet the object was visible what must have been four or five miles away.

If other people noticed this and report it, please let me know what it was. I'm curious.
