EXPLAINED: Bright lights in Somerset county NJ on 11/23/11 Reports on this website dated 11/23/11 that describe brights lights in the middle of the night that quite literally turned day into night, and changed colors including yellow, green, blue and red can all be attributed to a transformer explosion that occured on that evening. It was also followed by a power outage that struck several hundred homes in Somerset county. My wife, our 10 year old daughter and myself all witnessed this event and while we joked about "the aliens landing" we can assure you that this was a terrestrial event related to the weather at the time (it was raining very hard with strong wind) that damaged a nearby power transformer.
