Thre lights High Level >40,000ft over Ramsgate in Kent UK in 1998 at about 9PM+

I am on the grass above the beach with my girlfriend, facing out to sea, looking up at the stars, one star came from left to right, too high and fast for an airliner or fast jet. I thought it could be a sattelite. It was a clear night and all the stars were visible. Then the light stopped dead high altitude at least 38,000 probably more. No cloud obscuration. As I wondered where it had gone (as the sky was so clear it was now camoflaged by the millions of other stars) Suddenly, two smaller (in magnitude and size) lights/star shot out from behind my vertical position (overhead) and criss-crossed their paths almost at right angles, in the dark sky, strangely or coincidently they crossed just at the position where the previous star/satt/light had stopped.

My conclusion was that it was a large Satt, which coincidently crossed the paths of two smaller satts which coincidently cross each others paths at right angles. Not surprising considering the number of satts in orbit. The smaller satts though were really, really fast and I saw them positively but only for two seconds. No trailers.

No engine sounds. I am a pilot.
