red lights over miami florida I am reporting a sighting I had on January 01, 2011, at approximately 1238 a.m. location is Miami Florida. I observed five to six objects flying from south to north on the western side of the sky. The objects appeared to be at different altitudes from each other but in formation. They where approximately at 45 to 50 degrees from the horizon. At first I thought they were meteors. However, I observed them for 35 to 45 seconds. I used my binoculars to take a closer look. The light they emitted were the color of road flares and were very bright. They would dim slightly and become bright again. The altitude appeared to be to high for a helicopter and was about the usual altitude that airplanes take when approaching an airport. I could see the light appeared to be located at the bottom of the craft and there were no navigation lights on the craft. I have seen fighter jets flying at night and these did not appear to be jets. They were traveling at a speed slightly faster than a commercial jet and maintained a straight course except for changing altitude. I lost sight of them due to ground obstructions. Approximately 10 minutes passed and I observed one more object flare up and take a similar flight course to the previous 5. I observed this object for approximately 25 to 30 seconds until I lost sight of it due to ground obstructions and light pollution. I called a someone who was in Orlando at the time and told that person what I had observed. This person observed something similar approximately 10 to 15 minutes after my incident. I hope someone else observed what I did and maybe can provide a logical explanation.
