Green sphere speeding across the sky in 1960's

I just heard about this site, so I am sorry that the date isn't certain. The event was reported in the news, and they said it was a weather balloon (yeah, right).

Around dinner time, my brother yelled to come outside. We saw a bright green object speeding across the sky at the same altitude from one side to the other. I believe it was south to north. It went as fast. It was not possible to tell how high it was, thus it is unclear how fast it really was. There was no sound.

This happened when I was about 16. I want it on record.
