Triangular formation of bright amber lights passes over downtown L.A. after violating LAX approach path

As this event took place while driving at 60MPH in heavy traffic on a particularly hazardous stretch of the 110 freeway heading into downtown L.A, I am making this report only in the hopes that it might help corroborate other reports of the same object. I was headed SW. The moon was visible in my windshield ( approx 30 degree azimuth )and directly ahead. I noticed a triangular pattern of very bright gold/amber lights approaching. and which passed approx 10 degrees west of the Moon. From my vantage point, the "flight" path was straight, roughly South-SW to East-NE and passed directly over downtown Los Angeles. I lost sight of it as it passed directly above my head ( and hood ). The speed was slow in relation to the aircraft (747's) turning on final approach for LAX which were also visible concurrently with this object. This object CROSSED OVER, and perpendicularly to the established LAX approach path, though at a higher altitude than the traffic on approach. The path it traveled was unusual enough due to the tightly controlled nature of the L.A airspace and the resulting familiar and CONSTANT air-traffic patterns. The craft was comparable in size to a large airliner. There were no port/starboard running lights- no strobing lights of any kind. The lights were large, similar to a head on view of landing lights but, unlike landing lights, as the craft passed from ahead and low to the horizon, to the point where the object was directly above me, the lights became even more visible as they took on a more distinctly round appearance. The intensity of the lights remained constant- never got brighter, just more visible. When directly above me, they appeared to be on the bottom of the object. I wasn't able to count the number of lights at this point because I was still driving in heavy traffic. I believe a stationary observer would have had no trouble counting them. They formed either a triangle or possibly a chevron, and my recollection is that it was an odd number of lights along the leading ed! ges, including the "nose" or tip which had the same light. All lights were of equal size, shape, color and intensity.

I have consulted a map of my route and location at the time and will forward graphical info if needed, plus illustration.
