Seven orange lights travelling N.E to S.W

Thursday September 30 1999 at 23:50 G.M.T, I saw seven fuzzy orange lights travelling approx North East to South West across the centre of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. The sky was only partially cloudy and the Moon was in full view, so the lights were seen against a background of stars. They appeared to change direction and speed relative to each other while at the same time staying in a group, there was no sound from them and they eventually disappeared behind cloud over the City. I have not heard of anyone else who has reported a similar sighting on that night.
