Saw a collection of lights traveling towards Lompoc as I was driving towards buellton.

As I was traveling to work, towards buellton, above the road and hills there were four bright lights of two sizes positioned in a horizontal line. The two brightest lights were centered, like headlights and appeared to be the size of Venus on a clear night. The lights to the right and left were the same color, and slightly smaller diameter. It’s nighttime, so seeing the actual object emitting the lights was impossible. I found them to be cool, and where they seemed to be headed following the road back towards Lompoc. I continued to watch from the top of the hill at the initial glimpse until it became absent of view entirely from any perspective. This was a short time, 15 to 20 seconds max where the lights were visual. What was strange was how they changed. The object from my perspective was a plane, until 5 seconds into my observation. At the initial glimpse, the object seemed to hover above the road and hills at about 30 deg above the ground. The collection of four lights occupied a sky region as wide as my pinky nail if I were to hold it outstretched. As I got closer ( moving downhill) the lights got bigger, and at about 45 degrees above the ground 4 new lights all vivid red and pin sized appeared above the white lights. At this moment the white lights were double the size they were from when I was located at the top of the hill. I perceived this as the object moving towards me because it still seemed to “hang” in one spot of the sky, now occupying a region of the sky the size of two thumbs. I continued to observe, looking for flashing lights, or something I know to be more typical of planes. At the moment I would perceive our paths to cross, the object positioned 75 degrees or more above me, vanished, with the moon appearing at the same brightness as the initial lights. I say it vanished, because the moon was not at this same position while I had been watching the entire time. I did not blink. It was quite literally the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed, and living in Lompoc we see all kinds of cool stuff in the sky. This was very unusual, as the moon in the night sky was occupying only about the size of my thumb nail in the sky. The positioning of the lights seemed spacious, but I do not see how the body of the vehicle could cover the moonlight projecting towards me the entire time, until the moment I drove underneath. The simplest way I could put it was these sparse arrangement of lights became the moon in an instant. There was no line of sight as if it was the silhouette of a plane moving in front of the moon. It changed in an instant, or disappeared in an instant.
