Three White Fireballs Falling Through the Sky

As I exited my apartment building to go for a walk, I looked up and saw three white balls of fire in the sky. At first, I thought they were shooting stars as they were moving down, high in the sky. However, after watching them for a few seconds, they began to move apart from each other. The one in the center continued to move down but the two on either side shifted and moved horizontally. The whole sighting lasted for less than a minute, and then they winked out of existence. Later that night, I did see a shooting star and noticed how different it was from my original sighting. The star was dimmer (the UFOs were burning bright balls of white fire), it lasted only a second (the UFOs lasted about a minute), and there was only one (I saw three UFOs together).
