Saw a dim star looking figure moving in sky it got really bright then dimmed and stopped in place then shot in a different direction

Me and my boyfriend were walking the dog and I saw a moving star looking figure moving at an up angle and then it flashed a VERY bright light then it dimmed and stopped in place. I told my boyfriend to look at it and by the time he got his eyes on it it shot very fast in a different direction and disappeared. He saw it from a stopped position and then very quickly shot off and disappeared. But only I saw it moving before it shot away. It changed direction, trajectory and speed. It was not a shooting star or plane.
