Round disc flew low over the houses

I was walking our dog with my dad. It was dark out but I was young so it wouldn't have been later than 7pm. There was no one else around. We looked up and saw a perfectly round disc in the air above the houses and trees. We had a very clear view of it. It was silent, not huge, maybe about 40 to 50 feet diameter. It had white and red lights all around the edges that were on, not blinking. Just on. It moved silently off towards the fields. Then it was gone. My dad still remembers this as do I, very clearly.
