Craft was hovering a few metres above a group of 121 cows. Little sound and a faint glow.
Was operating with torch and accompanied by pet dog. Was alerted by growl from dog which quickly raced back to its home. Looked up to see unfamiliar domed shape hovering over cows. Was frightened myself as occupants of the craft must have been aware of my presence because of the torch beam, There was an increase in the humming being emitted from the craft and which began to rise vertically. A pinkish glow began to intensify under the craft which started to rise to about 30 metres- about double the tree height, I remembered being amazed that there was little sound as the thing was massive, probably 40 metres or more in diameter. I could see the craft quite clearly as it ascended. It was shaped like a large discus, but more rounded on top and it had what appeared to be large circular windows around the upper the upper circumference. Suddenly it paused and then began to accelerate at an unbelievable rate and soon disappeared towards the west in the direction of Aldinga. I must admit I was terrified and I took off in the opposite direction. My wife was amazed at the state I was in when I burst into the house because I raced around inside the house, locking doors and windows before I grabbed our our baby out of her crib and jumped into bed beside them. I had not seen any occupants of the craft but I know they returned for when I went to get the cows for milking at 6.30 AM I could not find the cows. Usually they gathered near the milking shed gates, but none were there, nor could I find them in the adjacent paddocks. The owner of the property was quite upset when i woke him, but he joined me and accused me of leaving the gates open. However all the gates were closed and there was no telltale droppings to suggest the cattle had escaped down the the main road. We searched all paddocks to no avail. The owner offered to walk all the fences to see if there were broken wires and I suggested that I would check a patch of virgin scrub in a very steep rocky part of the property. "They won't be there . I have been here thirty years and I have never seen a cow down there" the owner offered. I had already checked the fences and with no other explanation I decided to check the virgin scrub. It was there that I found them, all 121 cows, none the worse for wear, but all very nervous. I could not find any evidence of harm except that the quantity of milk was about 40% down and many of the cows presented evidence of running. That was not the end of the story for several years later I met a scout leader who had taken a group of scouts to the trig point on the same October night . I had not told anyone of my encounter for fear of ridicule, yet here was a man repeating exactly what I had seen.
