Unverified rocket, possibly deployed something

On the Palos Verdes Peninsula between 8-9pm PDT there was a rocket, or something very far in the distance with a consistent white-orange glow moving at the same speed as a rocket, which could be seen heading south. We saw it as it was rising well above the afterglow. In the minute we watched it, it looked like something detached or deployed which had a small red glow (very similar to the thrusters on the Starlink satellite deployments) that couldn't be tracked by the naked eye after 2-3 seconds. None of us saw the initial launch point. We watched it until the trees obstructed our view of it. There was no obvious tail on the object as it traveled.

We assumed it was from Vandenburg, as it followed the same general trajectory as the SpaceX Starlink missions, and looked very much like their previous launches, but there were no launches recorded within the timeframe on September 7th. It's possible it may have been an aircraft that was much closer [50-100mi] and traveling at a slower speed, but there were no flights in the timeframe that matched it's flight path either.
