Observer Background:
I am a skywatcher who frequently observes satellites. The object initially appeared similar to a faint satellite in brightness and motion, but its speed and maneuver were anomalous and inconsistent with satellites.
Description of the Object and Event:
The object heading east was a very faint point of light, comparable in brightness to a dim satellite, barely visible to the naked eye under somewhat dark sky conditions. It was non-twinkling and steady, like a high-altitude object in space, and I could track it clearly with my eyes, ruling out any optical illusion or atmospheric distortion.
The sequence of events was as follows:
Initial Flashes: The sighting began with two fast, bright white flashes of light( as I have observed before with satellites), spaced approximately 3 seconds apart. Each flash was brief (less than 1 second). The flashes appeared to originate from the object, increasing its visibility.
Straight-Line Motion: Following the second flash, the object moved in a straight line for about 2 seconds about the speed of normals satellite, covering a good angular distance in the sky. Then the motion went very fast—much quicker than typical satellites. Made a wide u-turn towards the south, was smooth but rapid, implying extreme acceleration which is impossible for conventional satellites or spacecraft.
Disappearance: After about 2 seconds completing the U-turn heading west, the object disappeared from view. The disappearance was sudden, like a light turning off, rather than fading gradually.
The entire event occurred in space, at an altitude consistent with satellites (no twinkling, steady light). It was not a drone, aircraft, meteor, or satellite, as meteors do not make turns, drones are typically closer and audible/visible with lights, and satellites follow predictable linear paths without sharp maneuvers. I ruled out optical illusions, as I could follow the object steadily with my eyes.
Additional Notes
No Sound or Other Effects: The object was silent, with no associated sounds, trails, smoke.
Environmental Context: The sky was clear, with stars visible and full moon. No aircraft or other objects were noted in the vicinity. The sighting occurred during evening, but the object was high enough to be in space.
Why Anomalous: As someone who regularly watches satellites, I initially thought this was one due to its faint, steady light. However, the speed (far faster than orbital velocities) and U-turn (requiring immense acceleration beyond known technology) did not make sense for any conventional object.
No Photos/Video: No recording was taken, as the event was brief and unexpected.
