Vertical white tic tac hovering at very high altitude northeast of Roswell. Remained in sight for 45 mins.
As the captain of a private jet, I was transporting four passengers from Carlsbad NM to Kansas City, MO. Immediately after leveling at 41,000 feet, a passenger alerted me to an object hovering adjacent our left wing. To me, it appeared far, perhaps 20 miles or more, and much higher. On inspection, it appeared to be cylindrical and vertical like a white tic tac. I am familiar with how other jets appear, and this was considerably larger and not conventional. I queried ATC if it might be a weather balloon but they indicated that it wasn’t. Typically, the airspace is restricted for weather balloons and none was indicated on this day.
The object appeared to keep pace with us for a while. I dismissed it as a satellite, a planet, or another aircraft. The object remained off our left wing for approximately 30-45 mins until finally it disappeared from sight, as it became harder to see behind us. All the passengers goers witnessed the event.
