8–9 glowing red spheres, ~50 ft wide, ~100 ft up, silent, 3 witnesses, playful formation shift.

On a cold, clear Sunday evening, November 28, 1976, at approximately 8:00 PM, I and two close friends witnessed a formation of eight to nine enormous glowing red spheres pass silently over Cambridge (Galt), Ontario. The weather was around –5°C with visibility over 14 km (clear skies). The objects were approximately 100 feet above us, each appearing about 50 feet in diameter.

I first noticed a bright red light approaching from the left of my field of vision, about two miles away, and initially assumed it was an aircraft beacon. As I watched, it became clear that there were multiple objects, aligned one after the other, moving in a perfectly straight line. As they came closer, their immense size and uniformity became unmistakable. There were no windows, no blinking lights, no sound, no exhaust, and no structural features — just huge, glowing red spheres, solid and bright.

As the formation passed directly overhead, three of the leading spheres seemed to deliberately and almost playfully change positions, moving close to one another before returning to their line. The entire formation then continued silently across the sky, heading northeast toward the local Conservation Area. We attempted to follow by car, but quickly lost sight of them over the lake.

The experience left all of us stunned. There was no fear, only amazement at what we had just seen. Later that evening, when I called the local radio station (CFTJ), the DJ answered with, “Hello — did you see the lights too?” He said the switchboard was jammed with calls. The following day, a police officer was quoted in the news, dismissing the objects as the Canadian Air Force’s Snowbirds, but this explanation is impossible. The objects made no sound and lacked any aircraft features.

In subsequent years, I discovered that there were numerous similar reports of red spheres across North America during late November 1976, including in South Dakota, West Virginia, Massachusetts, and connections to the Charlie Redstar sightings in Manitoba (1975–76).

I want to emphasize that this was a very real, physical event. Despite being teenagers in the 1970s, neither I nor my friends were under the influence of any drugs or hallucinogens. Nearly 50 years later, the memory of the sighting is still vivid and clear.
