Silent shimmering hovering orb that eventually vibrated rapidly, shot off at super speed an angle upwards then disappeared.

My sister and I were walking to next door neighbor's house around 4 pm during summer because I remember the weather as being good for Dublin Ireland. The sky was the usual grey cover but not cumulus clouds. We saw a shimmering orb of sunset colors silently hovering between the two houses but higher than the roofs. As we stared at it for a minute or so, it began to vibrate rapidly but silently. Then it shot away at an angle upwards but at hyper speed in seconds it was gone. With no Internet back then all we could do was call Dunsink Observatory on the other side of town but they saw nothing.
