Rectangular, silent object with lights traveling slowly on horizontal path just above treeline in remote, unlit area w/ low air traffic

While driving in an unlit, remote, forested area at around 2:50 a.m. on a clear weather night, my boyfriend and I witnessed a rectangular object with several rows of unblinking lights hovering just above the tree line. It could not be discerned how many there were, but they resembled tracking lights on a train car and seemed to outline the object. With no light to illuminate the street ahead, I assumed we were approaching a railroad uphill and that it was a passenger car on a train, as I'm unfamiliar with the road. However, we were not on an incline, and there wasn't proper visibility to see an object that far ahead, meaning it had to be above ground. There was a signal disturbance that cut out my cellular connection just moments before we saw it, so we were driving in silence. Any aircraft or locomotive that close to us would have been completely audible, but there was absolutely no noise coming from it. We watched as it slowly glided on a set horizontal path traveling northeast, with it staying in our line of sight for approximately 10-15 seconds. It was traveling just above the trees, but so slow that it seemed improbable for it to maintain altitude. My boyfriend has lived in this area his entire life, but I recently moved in with him from the DFW area of Texas. I used to live around many airports and have seen just about every kind of aircraft, including those used in the military. But neither of us had ever seen anything like that.
